Good pies, made properly.

Henry’s started pretty simply. It was just me, one oven, and a belief that a proper pie should still taste the way it used to. I could not find one that hit the mark, so I decided to make my own. Thick gravy, chunky meat, flaky pastry, no shortcuts, no fillers, just honest food done right.

I began selling our pies at the Hastings Farmers’ Market. Before long the line was out the gate. Every Sunday morning you will still find us there, talking with locals, seeing familiar faces, and making sure everyone gets their usual.

From Farmer's Markets to Otane

After a few seasons of baking like crazy days before the market and selling out by morning, I knew it was time for a proper home. We found it in the old Ōtāne library. It is a place full of history, character, and heart.

This is where every pie is still made by hand. We roll the pastry ourselves, cook the fillings, and seal every pie the same way we always have. It is not the fastest method, but it is the right one. People tell us they can taste the difference, and we are proud of that.

Local Ingredients, Local Pride

We believe in using local ingredients whenever we can. Good food starts with good ingredients, and we are lucky to have incredible suppliers right here in Hawke’s Bay. Our pies are made using Matangi beef and Bostock Brothers chicken. These are two local producers who care about quality as much as we do.

Matangi Beef
Their Angus beef is tender and full of flavour. It is the kind of meat that makes a proper, hearty pie.

Bostock Brothers
We use their organic free range chicken for our chicken pies. They are local growers who raise their birds naturally and take real pride in how they farm.

Every filling is made slowly in our kitchen, and every pie is handcrafted from start to finish. There are no machines doing the work for us. Just simple ingredients and a lot of hard work.

The Heart Behind Henry’s

Henry’s Family Pies is a true family business. We are proud of the long hours, the early starts, and the care that goes into everything we make. You will not find factory lines or automated production here. It is just me and the crew doing things the way we have always done them.

We roll the pastry, cook the fillings, bake the pies, pack them by hand, and know every recipe inside and out. It is honest work, and we love it. We are grateful every day for the people who support us.
